The End of Football Season . . .

Once again, football season is coming to a close.  Although my son enjoys playing, I can't say that I will miss the crazy scheduling that comes along with it!  Beginning in late August, he spends three nights a week practicing, and once school begins, evenings at our house become chaotic.  Trying to do homework, rush to football, and not having dinner until after 7:00 wears thin after a few weeks!

Despite having great team spirit, it hasn't been a winning year for the 6th Grade Cougars (but that one victory was sweet!).  There is one game left - hopefully they will close their regular season with a win - but then again, that would mean they make the playoffs which would prolong the practice schedule!

Now, on to basketball season . . .

Seaside Park . . .

There's more to the "Jersey Shore" than what you see on MTV!  Every year we spend a week in August in the bourough of Seaside Park, New Jersey- a great summer vacation destination!

Seaside Park was incorporated in 1898 and is located on the Barnegat Barrier Island.  It is flanked by Barnegat Bay on the West, the Atlantic Ocean, and ends with Island Beach State Park on its Southernmost point.  The first inhabitants of this area were American Indians who came to the area in search of its abundance of crabs and shellfish.

What is now Seaside Park was a section of Dover Township until 1875. The area then became known as the “Sea Side Park” section of Berkeley Township.  Between 1875 and 1900, the area become more populated - land was sold, houses and roads were built, and Seaside Park began to grow.  Today it is a small town of around 2,000 year-round residents, but is a summer getaway for people from many surrounding areas, making tourism its main industry.

The main attraction in Seaside Park is the almost two-mile long beach.  Accesible by a boardwalk that runs along Ocean Avenue; the street and beach are separated by dunes which run along the waterfront.

Every year my sons look forward to our annual trek to Seaside Park - swimming, the boardwalk and the local 7-11 being some of their favorite spots!  A few photos from our vacation in August:

P.S. - Being a big "Jersey Shore" fan - we made a stop in Seaside Heights to see the action (and caught a glimpse of Snooki - but didn't get a picture).  Here are a few shots:
