Yesterday we visited a local farm that is part of the Cabot Cheese network of farmers as part of the Cabot Open House program. Lolans Farm in Middleborough, Massachusetts supplies dairy products to the Cabot Creamery in Vermont, and has been a working farm since 1946.
The farm is located on picturesque street on the outskits of Middleborough. The barns and chicken coops were open to visitors, and representatives from the farm and Cabot were available to give tours and explain the process of how local dairy products make the transformation to the Cabot Cheese products you find in your local supermarket.
The biggest attraction for my son was visiting with the cows! His favorite were the two calves, who were only 6 and 8 days old -
There was even a contest where you could get a chance to name the two new arrivals (my son voted to name them "Bob"!) -
Much of our time was spent visiting with the cows in the largest barn. It was great to be able to get close to them as they were very friendly and loved the attention. I never knew they had such beautiful eyelashes!
It was a nice way to spend a beautiful Fall Sunday!
